TGIF - Oh Lord, please gib mir meine Language back

What is Denglish?  It's not Germlish!

Denglish is: using both English and German in the same sentence and/or making the English word like German, which has become very common here in Deutschland.

Examples:
  • Ich habe ein meeting.
  • Hast du schon die neueste Firefoxversion downgeloadet?

Another Monday with each other

Germlish = We'll see/meet us next week.

What you want to say: We'll see/meet each other next week.

Each other is called a reciprocal (Reziproke) pronoun. It means that two or more people can do (carry out) an action e.g. meet and get the result of that action at the same time.

In English the reciprocal pronouns are each other and one another

Beispiel: Wir kennen uns. (= Wir kennen einander.)

Die if-Sätze (Bedingungssätze) Typ III

Verwendung

If I had known about this problem earlier, I would have fixed it today.

      past perfect                                               present perfect

Beispiele

If I had won the lottery, I would have gone on a trip around the world.

If I had studied, I might have passed the exams.

If you hadn’t turned off the TV, I would have been watching the match.

Beispiele

If I had studied harder, I would have passed the test.
I would have passed the test if I had studied harder.

Die Asche meiner Mutter - Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt

Thank you Gabi!

Anglea's Ashes is a must read book and must see film.
Langenscheit Verlag Buch

How to Improve YOUR English Skills

I am often asked, "how can become more fluent" or "what can I do to improve my understanding" and "how can I feel more confident?"

Well, English is a piece of cake - BUT it is not always easy to do the things you need to do to improve your skills.

It takes:
  • time
  • practice
  • believing you can
A few TIPS:  KISS
  • watch TV series or movies in English (DVD or online) - start with 5 minutes at a time.
  • read an article or a book - keep it simple until you get used to it.
  • practice with a friend, a colleague, etc. - say 5 minutes a week to begin
